Dear Community Family,
As many of you know, the Phase I Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of the Bus Bench Project was last May 26, 2015.It was a wonderful day, full of hope, a day so beautiful that even a monsoon-like torrential rainstorm could neither dampen it, nor hinder its attendance.
The event was well-attended by mayors, school superintendents, representatives of the Rockford Mass Transit (RMTD), State Representative Letisa Wallace liaisons, Directors of Curriculum from the local public school districts of Rockford, Belvidere, and Harlem, as well as teachers of Art: Betsy, Jill, Allison, and Barb.
We know firsthand that the parents, grandparents, siblings, family members and friends were very proud of our contributing students, as were all the committee members of the Adopt-A-Bench 61111 Committee.
Phase II is now taking shape and we are reaching out to our Loves Park Community family again.
We are now looking forward to working with the Loves Park Businesses on Riverside Boulevard and Forest Hills Road; we’re coming your way! We have reached out to Belvidere, Harlem and Rockford School Districts again, but we have also incorporated the efforts of the students at Loves Park Elementary, Rock Cut Elementary, St Bridget’s, Rockford Christian Schools and reached out to Boylan Central Catholic High School! Don’t worry if we have not contacted you during this part of Phase II; we will be reaching out to you in Phase III.
We continue to offer bench sites, constructed and installed up to city ordinance. Those interested may purchase a complete site and dedicate it to the noteworthy cause of their choice. Current sites have involved memorials (in memory of a loved one,a patriotic sacrifice, or a given individual’s exemplary community service), as well as school alumni showing gratitude for their alma mater, or an organization just sponsoring a site.
Should you desire to dedicate a complete site on behalf of your cause, be sure to write in the memo of your check: “BUS BENCH PROJECT IN MEMORY.”
Should you opt to contribute towards flowers, floral hanging baskets, or banners, then please write, in the memo of your check: “Beautification Committee.”
Again, many thanks to all who have, or plan, to contribute to this ongoing project to make our community a beautiful place to live and work. Thanks to your generous efforts, this project is gaining momentum, ramping up and moving forward at an admirable velocity, and promises to be a success that recognizes our Northern Illinois cities as the beautiful places they are, to live, to grow, and to raise families.
If you are interested in participating with the City of Loves Park and the Adoptabench61111 Committee, you can e-mail us at [email protected] or call (815) 608-9327 for more information. The project is an exciting endeavor we hope will spur creative student public art as part of the revitalization of Riverside Boulevard and North Second Street in Loves Park.
Sincerely,
